HABITAT HIGHLIGHTS

• In June 2007, HFH China’s Hong Kong office launched an appeal for funds to rebuild homes following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Ning’er county, Yunnan province. More than 90,000 homes collapsed and some 180,000 people have to be evacuated from their houses.

• Nearly HK$5 million (US$639,510) was raised at HFH China’s second fundraising gala in Hong Kong, in April 2007.

• In January 2007, Habitat completed kitchen renovations and installation of heat insulated roofs for 10 leprosy affected people in Dingwo village, Fusui county, Guangxi province. This project was in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kowloon North, Hong Kong, and Fusui county’s Disabled People’s Federation.

• In December 2006, HFH China’s Hong Kong office completed the second project under its “Home Safety and Improvement Program” in Wah Fu Estate, Aberdeen, in September 2006. The project served 65 families. Nearly 70 families were helped in the first project in Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate in July 2006.

• In 2006, HFH China hosted more than 770 volunteers, mainly from international schools in other Chinese cities, and business corporations such as Citigroup, Kerry Properties and Tyco.

• HFH China has helped more than 170 leprosy affected people to have their own homes in Yunnan, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces.

• Habitat assisted more than 110 families affected by the July 2006 floods in Shaoguan municipality, Guangdong province, to rebuild their homes.

• In March 2006, the Leprosy Mission International (TLMI) board approved up to 1.4 million yuan (about US$175,000) funds to support the projects of HFH China’s Guangxi Project Office over the next five years. This cooperation rests on the back of the Fusui Project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also funded mostly by TLMI.
